About ENG. Vincent Okoth Halwenge
BIRTH:
Vincent Okoth Halwenge was born in 1954 to the late Petro Halwenge Sundyia and Mama Eunia Ngira Halwenge in Wananyiera Village, Ukwala Division of Siaya County. Brother to Charles Odhiambo(late), Fredrick Oudo (late), Florence Halwenge, Sylvester Ochola (Late) and Mrs. Elizabeth Otieno. Stepbrother to Edward Halwenge, James Halwenge, Joseph
Halwenge, Alice Halwenge and Donald Otin among others.
Education and Work
Like all children born in his generation, Vincent had a happy early life tending to his father’s herd among other chores. He started his formal education in 1963 when he joined Ukwala Primary School, where he completed his primary education in 1969. He proceeded to join Mawego Technical in Homa Bay County for his high school education and went to Kisumu Technical College, where he finished tertiary education. He joined the then KPTC in 1975 as a Technical Trainee. He trained at the current Multimedia University formerly, Central Training School, training students from all over Africa in telecommunications. He was later posted to Major Works Construction department transmission and radio section. Then
transferred to the headquarters, Department of Project Planning Engineering where he worked in the section transmission and Radio. He rose to be Senior Assistant Manager transmission and radio. Finally, he was appointed Manager in charge of
National Network Maintenance until he retired in 2006. He underwent several advanced Engineering and management courses locally and in Israel, Spain, Britain, Japan, South Africa among others. After retirement he joined Adwest Company as their
Tanzania Project Manager and later he returned and teamed up with former Telkom Kenya colleagues to form Penyacom, as a director till his demise.
MARRIAGE & FAMILY:
Vincent met and married Doris Adhiambo in 1985 They consummated their marriage vows in the Attorney General’s office. They were blessed with four beautiful children who are now adults: Edith Akinyi, Olivia Aluoch, Alice Halwenge and Fidel
Halwenge. They were also blessed with three lovely grandchildren Erica Inisa, Femi Wendo, and Zawadi Lindiwe
SICKNESS AND DEATH:
Vincent had been ailing for a long time but being a strong man had borne the illness with bravery and with great fortitude. In the run up to his death, he had a persistent cough that almost always prevented him from sleeping normally. The persistence of the cough caused Mama Doris to wake him up on Friday 4th June 2021 and take him to hospital. They set out for Shalom Hospital, Athi River, but unfortunately, they did not make it to hospital. He succumbed on the way. Vincent will be remembered for his immense humility, his strong family principles and values, and easygoing manner that enabled him to interact with people
from all walks of life. We are grateful to Almighty God for the years He had given him to us and the great times we had. We shall truly miss his love, understanding, encouragement, support, and family togetherness.
