About Elias Mwakamba Mjomba – E.B.S • H.S.C

EARLY LIFE
Elias was the last born of the late Mr. Naftal Mjomba Mafusa and the late Mrs. EvelyneWabosha Mwavula. He was brother to Geoffrey Mafusa (late), Agnes Nguku, Clemence Mghoi (late), Shadrack Maighacho and Anderson Mwavula (late). He enjoyed engaging in sporting activities such as basketball and football. He also played brass instruments while in school. He made many friends from all walks of life and was keen on maintaining his friendships until his demise.

EDUCATION
Elias attended the following schools: Mdundonyi Lower Primary School in Werugha between 1959-1962. St. John’s Upper Primary School in Mgange-Nyika between 1963-1965. St. Mary’s High School Lushangonyi between 1966-1969.

WORK

Elias joined the Kenya Police Force as a recruit Constable in 1970 and the Special Branch in 1971. He worked in Kwale District between 1971 and 1973 as an Intelligence Officer. He served at the Directorate of Security Intelligence (DSI) headquarters as a Desk Officer between 1974-1984. He was appointed the Deputy Government Protective Security Officer (GPSO) at Directorate of Security Intelligence (DSI) between 1984-1990 He served as the District Security Intelligence Officer (DSIO) in Mombasa between 1991-1992 and was promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.He was the Provincial Security Intelligence Officer (PSIO) Coast Province and later on Nyanza Province. He was promoted to Senior Assistant Police Commissioner of Police between 1992-1995. He served as Government Protective Security Officer (GPSO) Directorate of Security Intelligence (DSI) headquarters and promoted to Deputy Commissioner of
Police between 1995-1998.

He served as the Provincial Security Intelligence Officer (PSIO) Rift Valley between 1998-1999. He was appointed as the Regional Coordinator Nairobi Region in the National Security and Intelligence Service (NSIS) between 1999-2001. He was appointed as the Assistant Director Internal Division in the National Securityand Intelligence Service (NSIS), a position he served between 2001-2003.He was appointed as the Director Operations, National Security and Intelligence Service (NSIS) from 2003, a position he held until he retired in 2006. He was appointed as the Chairman of Taita Taveta Water and Sewarage Company (TAVEVO) from 2006 where he served two terms and he continued pursing his love of farming.During his tour of duty, Elias traveled widely and attended numerous local and international courses facilitated by the governments of Kenya, United Kingdom (UK), Canada, United States ofAmerica (USA), Germany and Israel. Some of the oversees courses include CIA, MI5 and MI6 training. He was awarded the following Special Honors:

Head of State Commendation (HSC) in 1983 by the late His Excellency the President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi,who fondly referred to his as “Kijana yangu”.

Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) in 2002 by the late His Excellency the President Emilio Mwai Kibaki.

Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear EBS) in 2005 by the late His Excellency the President Emilio Mwai Kibaki.

MARRIAGE AND FAMILY
He met his best friend and the love of his life Rachael Katty Mjomba in 1980 and exchanged vows on 26th December 1981. Their marriage was blessed with six children, Diana Wabosha, Janet Warighe, Elizabeth Samba, Rose Bibi, Agnes Nguku and Joshua Grayson. He was a doting grandfather to Eli Mwakamba Mjomba, Kieran Valerian Mwabili, Katty Kambua Kaluku, Wabosha Kavata Kaluku, Kacie Warighe Mjomba and Jude Paul Mwakamba Otieno.

ILLNESS AND DEATH
Elias has been Diabetic and Hypertensive for over thirty years. He was also diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease(CKD) in 2019. He has been managing the condition through dialysis twice a
week at Kitengela West Hospital and Nairobi West Hospital, under the guidance of brilliant nephrologists and cardiologists. However, despite all efforts by his doctors, he succumbed to complications arising from CKD on the morning of 19th November 2025 at 0430 hours. With humble acceptance of God’s will, Mzee has peacefully rested.
